Troops arrive around Mongolia’s parliament building as hundreds of people protested in the centre of the capital, Ulan Bator, against the MPRP’s manoeuvres and called for fresh elections, 16 January 2006. The Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party (MPRP) declared it was confident of forming a government after controversially removing democrat Tsakhia Elbegdorj as prime minister after the MPRP triggered the political upheaval when its 10 ministers resigned from the cabinet last week followed by lengthy and acrimonious parliamentary debates culminated in a vote approving the resignation.
