ETHIOPIA-RASTAFARIANS-CULTURE

Rastafarian herbal healer Ras Kabena peels corn husks in Shashemene, Ethiopia on April 21, 2012, the 46th anniversary of Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie’s visit to Jamaica in 1966. A ceremonial fire burns under the late afternoon sun, and dreadlocked Rastafarians sway to drum beats chanting „Haile-aye!” „Selassie-aye!” in praise of Ethiopia’s former emperor Haile Selassie, who they believe to be god incarnate. Under a cloud of marijuana smoke and in their trademark red, gold and green colours — also the official colours of the Ethiopian flag — the revellers mark the 46th anniversary of Haile’s visit to Jamaica.
