The violins strike up and the Romathan theatre group dancers sweep onto the stage in a blaze of twisting colour with their main prop – a currency converter to explain Slovakia’s switch to the single European currency euro at the start of 2009. Songs, dances and comic sketches are served up to the enthusiastic applause of the public from the gypsy community of Saca-Kosice, opposite the huge steel plant operated by US Steel.
