(FILES) UN police deploy to prevent an escalation of clashes between ethnic Kosovo Albanians and Kosovo Serbs in the ethnically divided town of Kosovska Mitrovica 17 March 2004. Top Serbian and Kosovo Albanian leaders were gearing up for their first face-to-face talks in Vienna 24 July 2006, seven years after the war, to discuss the future status of the independence-seeking province. The unprecedented meeting will be the first between top Serbian and Kosovo Albanian leaders since 1999, when a NATO bombing campaign forced Serbian troops to pull out of the province and end a crackdown on armed ethnic Albanian separatists.
